Profile
Keishi Iwashita received a BA in civil engineering from the Nihon University College of Science and Technology, an M.Eng from School of Industrial Technology, and double PhDs from the New York University, Academy of Science in 1998 and the Nihon University in 2009, respectively. He has been on the NUCIT(Nihon University, College of Industrial Technology) faculty since 1983 and was one of the founding scientists of NU Remote Sensing. He has led interdisciplinary studies in two areas: one addresses civil engineering field; the other is in the integration of environmental science using remote sensing with computer science and technology. He is a certified fellowship and a temporary faculty of the University of California, Los Angeles, Image mapping Lab. since 2001, and an international cooperative member of USEPA Star Grant Research Program.
In remote sensing field, he specializes in optics, radiative transfer, and remote sensing in order to ascertain various ocean properties: pigments, detritus, dissolved organic matter, shallow bathymetry, and sea grass coverage.

Current state of research and teaching activities
Keishi Iwashita is a Professor in Civil Engineering & Sustainable engineering. He holds two appointments in the Nihon University and in the University of California, LA, SB & Irvine. His research and teaching interests focus on the remote sensing for monitoring pollutants in the ocean environment, to understand the processes through which contaminants may accumulate or transform in water, as well as in the biota, with an emphasis on developing better management strategies for dealing with pollutants in the environment. Current research topics involve the development of new combined radiometric algorithm to correct several unwanted noise of satellite data. Iwashita has had several years experience in instructing "Human Health and Environmental Science" in the School of Medicine at UC. Iwashita received his B.A. in 1978, MSc. in 1981 and doctoral degree in Engineering from the Nihon University in 2009. Also, he received his Ph.D from the New York University in 1998. He has been a faculty member at Nihon University since 1983. He is a recipient of the Best Presentation Awards from the JSCE & the best thesis award from the RSSJ, and the Contribution Award from the UC in 2000 & 2001.
