教育・研究活動状況
While I continue conducting longitudinal, qualitative case studies of Japanese learners seeking advanced degrees in American academic institutions, I am also part of a team of researchers funded by the JSPS to study the effects of study abroad in different contexts: short-term study abroad in Asian EFL contexts; short-term study abroad in ESL contexts, and long-term study in ESL contexts. We expect that students will gain a sense of competence in short-term Asian EFL contexts, students will experience decreased anxiety but also a sense of competence in short-term ESL contexts, and students will experience the greatest language performance and sense of self in long-term ESL contexts. We seek to identify the different linguistic and psycholinguistic benefits derived from each context.
