概要 Mental disorder caused by chronic stress is mostly difficult to be aware of by oneself. On the other hand, self-report inventories such as the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) can tell the emotional valence as a screening test for depressive and anxiety disorders, which are the key elements in the mental health assessment. However, the results of the self-report inventories themselves are not sufficient tool to persuade the test respondents to clearly understand how the results can be serious and the causal factors can affect the mental state in their recent life-style. On the other hand, Laterality Index at Rest (LIR) has been proposed for evaluation of mental stress level from the analysis of dynamic changes in oxygen concentration in the prefrontal cortex at the resting state. This study practically applies LIR for the long-term lifelog monitoring. Correlation analysis on LIR, STAI and BDI-II for
19 young subjects was first performed, and then compared with
the temporal changes in the lifelog including the sleep time and
the amount of physical activity.

概要 Time-resolved near-infrared spectroscopy (TRS) enables assessment of baseline concentrations of hemoglobin (Hb) in the prefrontal cortex, which reflects regional cerebral blood flow and neuronal activity at rest. In a previous study, we demonstrated that baseline concentrations of oxy-Hb, deoxy-Hb, total-Hb, and oxygen saturation (SO2) measured by TRS were correlated with mini mental state examination (MMSE) scores. In the present study, we investigated whether Hb concentrations measured with TRS at rest can predict MMSE scores in aged people with various cognitive functions. A total of 202 subjects (87 males, 115 females, age 73.4 ± 13 years) participated. First, MMSE was conducted to assess cognitive function, and then baseline concentrations of oxy-Hb, deoxy-Hb, total-Hb, and SO2 in the bilateral prefrontal cortex were measured by TRS. Then, we employed the deep neural network (DNN) to predict the MMSE score. From the comparison results, the DNN showed 91.5% accuracy by leave-one-out cross validation. We found that not only the baseline concentration of SO2 but also optical path lengths contributed to prediction of the MMSE score.

概要 This study assesses the Frontal Alpha Asymmetry (FAA) obtained from EEG data at the resting-state and Laterality Index at Rest (LIR) given from NIRS data for detection of depression risk in the early stage. The Comfort Vector model (CVM) is another potential biomarker using the feature value of prefrontal alpha wave fluctuation. In this paper, we discuss the potential biomarkers for assessment of depression risk. From the experimental result by simultaneous NIRS and EEG recordings of healthy subjects, the values of FAA, LIR and CVM associated with BDI score were found. We discuss the potentials of long-term simultaneous NIRS and EEG monitoring.

概要 This paper introduces a UAV path planning system to provide path plans for radiation dose mapping near residential area in meter-level resolution. The proposed method first identifies void areas, i.e., the GPS coordinates without sufficient measured points within a search radius, from the observation result of the previous UAV flight. The proposed method employs the flood-fill algorithm for path planning within each chunk of adjacent void areas, and the 2-opt algorithm performs path planning between the chunks of void areas. From the result obtained in our real-world case study of radiation dose mapping near an area affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster, the proposed method significantly reduces flight time compared to the results given from the algorithms of 2-opt only and flood-fill only, respectively. More importantly, one of our findings is that, even if multi-rotor UAV is used, the number of turns during the flight is the major factor of actual flight cost.

概要 Mood disorders caused by chronic stress are mostly difficult to be recognized of by ourselves. Self-reported inventories, e.g., Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), as screening tests can elucidate the emotional valence; however, these tools are not designed for periodic monitoring in daily life. Moreover, positive affect is also hard to recognize without taking such self-reported inventories. Here we compared the indices of frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA) obtained from electroencephalography (EEG) data in the resting state and laterality index at rest (LIR) from near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) data. The Comfort Vector model (CVM) is another approach for using the feature value of prefrontal alpha wave fluctuation. In this paper, we discuss the applicability of these biomarkers for assessment of emotional valence. From experimental results from periodic NIRS and EEG recordings of two healthy subjects who participated for more than 4 weeks, feature values of FAA, LIR, and CVM were compared with BDI and STAI scores.

概要 Simultaneous monitoring of brain activity with near-infrared spectroscopy and electroencephalography allows spatiotemporal reconstruction of the hemodynamic response regarding the concentration changes in oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin that are associated with recorded brain activity such as cognitive functions. However, the accuracy of state estimation during mental arithmetic tasks is often different depending on the length of the segment for sampling of NIRS and EEG signals. This study compared the results of a self-organizing map and ANOVA, which were both used to assess the accuracy of state estimation. We conducted an experiment with a mental arithmetic task performed by 10 participants. The lengths of the segment in each time frame for observation of NIRS and EEG signals were compared with the 30-s, 1-min, and 2-min segment lengths. The optimal segment lengths were different for NIRS and EEG signals in the case of classification of feature vectors into the states of performing a mental arithmetic task and being at rest.

概要 Recent advances in temporal data mining of brain activity with NIRS and EEG signals allow us to recognize brain states in higher resolution. However, brain states are not always distinct from each other and often differ in temporal granularity. This paper revisits Dennett’s three levels of stance, the DIKW model for the design of two self-organizing maps (SOMs), which contributes to recognition of a hierarchy of brain states with finer granularities. The experimental results show that two brain states at different levels can be accurately identified by applying different training data for each level of SOM.

概要 Critical situations such as running into an impasse and failure of decision-making during collaborative work are often hard to recognize by team members themselves. Such critical situations drive the collaborative work into poor continuity. Remote collaboration is even harder to stay active due to communication difficulty in decision-making. This study argues an effective visualization method for monitoring causal factors of conversational situation by multimodal dialogue analysis from turn-taking and mental workload for collaborative working and communication use. Our approach to Follow
Awareness visualizes frequency of turn-taking and changing mental workload by the analysis of an EEG (electroencephalogram) based index. Mental workloads of two team members are compared as difference in their changes
within a predetermined amount of times for the analysis of follows between the team members. Frequency of turn-taking and changes in mental workload are then displayed by a mobile device during their collaborative work for validation in real-time.

概要 Most of context models have limited capability in involving human intention for system evolvability and self-adaptability. Human intention in context-aware systems can evolve at any time; however, context-aware systems based on these context models can provide only standard services that are often insufficient for specific user needs. Consequently, evolving human intentions result in changes in system requirements. Moreover, an intention must be analyzed on tangled relations from different types of contexts. In the past, this complexity has prevented researchers from using computational methods for analyzing or specifying human intention in context-aware system design. The authors investigated the possibility for inferring human intentions from contexts and situations, and deploying appropriate services that users require during system run-time. This paper presents an inference ontology to represent stepwise inference tasks, and then evaluate contexts surrounding a user who accesses PCs through a case study of the smart home environment.

概要 Techniques of communication support has a big challenge in visualizing temporal rate of communication between collaborative workers, while situation awareness in wrong direction of discussion and consecutive ignorance of opinions from an individual is often hard from the view of their supervisors. This study argues the potential to evaluate situation of communication by multi-modal dialogue analysis from turn-taking and EEG based estimation of mental workload. In this paper, we propose an index of {\it follows}, i.e., collaborative activity by response to an opinion with understanding of their conversation or advice to share knowledge of problem-solving. Causality between temporal distribution of follows in line with work progress of cooperative learners are evaluated in a case study of a qualifying test. From the evaluation results, both frequency of turn-taking and the amount of follows showed significant difference between two situations: stagnation such as less communication with silence at the point the participants tried to read problems and active conversation with more communication at the point they can answer solutions together.

概要 This research presents the application of concept A visualization method to monitor causality of changes in
lattice to visualize temporal causality of changes in mental
workload. A concept lattice in this paper projects potential causal
factors of changes in workload from multimodal sensor data. The
use of concept lattice in spatio-temporal data stream enabled us
for visualization of changing potential causal factors in finite-
length of time. We conducted an experiment to validate our
method. Temporal situations of 6 subjects during a lesson of
computer programming were evaluated to classify causal factors
of changing mental workload. Large variations of mental lattice is developed to project potential causal factors from workload during computer programming were mostly shown at multimodal, temporal sensor data (i.e., EEG spectrum, head the point the users faced a programming error or the point it was
resolved.

概要 Changing amount of radiation dose has become a great concern by citizen in Japan. Rigorous assessment of public safety including inaccessible areas is a key to resolution of this concern. Observation approach in this study is the application of UAV for extensively covering observation points. This paper presents map integration technique to create a distribution map in order for proving public safety at local spots. The distribution map is aggregated data from other online maps. Field test at a farmland is introduced to demonstrate the distribution map of radiation dose with different terrain conditions.

概要 Environmental situation awareness in this study focuses on monitoring techniques to discover public safety and potential risks at local spots. Changing amount of radiation dose recently has become a great concern by citizen near nuclear power plants. Observation approach to resolution of the concern in this study is the application of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle equipped with a situation monitor in order for covering observation points at the local spots which cannot be accessed by walking or wheeled vehicle. This paper presents an ontology based map integration process that merges 3D trajectory maps into a local distribution map in Google earth. 3D to 2D projection is introduced to visualize changes in spatial situation at ground level by calculation of radiation dose based on distance decay.

概要 User problems encountered during the use of a software product are often hard to identify even after the software product is thoroughly-tested and then released. There are inevitably unexpected situations introduced or triggered by transient use patterns, however, these unexpected situations can be hardly eliminated due to various human factors on user interaction. This study of situation-oriented real user monitoring develops an application of concept lattice to represent use patterns from user interaction and perceive potential user problems. Data structure of user problem is modeled based on user problem ontology. Once a user problem is recognized, observation data of the use patterns are the subject for further analysis. In this paper, use patterns in a file upload service are used to demonstrate how the concept lattice is used and discuss about validity of the causal factors found in the concept lattice.

概要 Evolvability is essential for computer systems to adapt to the dynamic and changing requirements in response to instant or delayed feedback from a service environment that nowadays is becoming more and more context aware; however, current context-aware service-centric models largely lack the capability to continuously explore human intentions that often drive system evolution. To support service requirements analysis of real-world applications for services computing, this paper presents a situation-theoretic approach to human-intention-driven service evolution in context-aware service environments. In this study, we give situation a definition that is rich in semantics and useful for modeling and reasoning human intentions, whereas the definition of intention is based on the observations of situations. A novel computational framework is described that allows us to model and infer human intentions by detecting the desires of an individual as well as capturing the corresponding context values through observations. An inference process based on HMM makes instant definition of individualized services at runtime possible, and significantly, shortens service evolution cycle.

概要 Smart home environments often need personalized requirements based on existing service products. Requirements under the environment may change at any time, even while services are correctly provided, since both caregivers and residents eventually diversify their intentions. In this paper, a situation-theoretic framework to infer human intentions is presented through a smart-home demonstration aimed at supporting independent living of elderly people. By analyzing experimental sensor data collected from a real-life smart home, differences and similarities between three detected intentions were intensely discussed.

However, most of current context models have limited capability in exploring human intentions that often drive system evolution. To support service requirements analysis of real-world applications in distributed service environments, this paper focuses on human-intention driven software evolvability. In our approach, requirements analysis via an evolution cycle provides the means of speculating requirement changes, predicting possible new generations of system behaviors, and assessing the corresponding quality impacts. Furthermore, we also discuss evolvability metrics by observing intentions from user contexts.

概要 Changing system requirements, especially for context awareness (CA) systems, often cause modifications in the software systems in order to adapt to dynamic environments. Since the requirements may become temporarily obsolete or contrary to human intentions, the CA systems need to be tuned to resolve the conflict. On the other hand, most CA design methods rely on pre-defined requirements and reasoning engine, thus, fail to address all the possible situations. Consequently, services provided by such a CA system are limited to accommodate some situations and unable to react as expected. Therefore, it is critical for CA systems to capture exceptions at runtime, infer changed human intentions, and adapt to these changes. This study focuses on inference of ever-changing human intentions and monitoring human intentions to handle system evolution. In this paper, we present an inference mechanism of human intentions via the human-machine dimensional inference ontology (HDIO). This ontology gives inference rules based on the BDI logic to deduce human intentions from contexts.

概要 User intentions to obtain services evolve over time. Since the changes of intention may occur at any time, some system requirements may become temporarily obsolete or contrary to a user intention. However, user intentions often indicate potential, valuable goals for upgrading the system to a new version or engaging new development. Our research tackles requirements analysis issues via feedback from context awareness systems to identify user intentions and capture instant definitions of goal in a robust manner. This paper presents a context-aware goal elicitation process by exploring the aspects of data, information, knowledge and wisdom. Furthermore, captured user intentions and goals are shown in a case study of healthcare system, and issues for the goal elicitation are explored.

概要 In large-scale, real-time systems, the software design process is still highly dependent on the skills of the developers. To enable the efficient, speedy design of reliable software products, we require a means of conveying design decisions from experts to other engineers. Our approach involves the development of the "Causality of Problem-Issue-Solution" (CAPIS) model which can be used to represent experts? thought processes. The CAPIS model divides a thought process that includes complexity and diversity into Problems, Issues, and Solutions (PIS), and then describes conceptual models based on the knowledge hierarchy of Data, Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom. The PIS ontology is used to describe items in the conceptual models. This paper describes a software design method that is based on this CAPIS model. As an example, we consider the thought processes involved in building reliability into a UML class diagram.

概要 経験者の設計判断を設計者がだれでも共有して使用できるように,経験者の思考過程表現の手法を開発している.設計判断の結果が必ず設計結果に反映されることに着眼し,本論文では複雑性や多様性のある思考過程を「問題」「課題」「対策」に分けて表現するCAPIS (CAusality of Problem-Issue-Solution)モデル方式を提案する.CAPISモデル方式の適用実験として,オブジェクト指向モデリングを経験したことのある経験者4人によって表現された思考過程を考察した.その結果,クラス図やメモの記述結果で経験者に言及されなかった常識・専門知識,設計意図等が表現され,経験者の思考過程が表現されたことを確認した.

概要 The papers in this special issue focus on technologies and applications that support digital healthcare. Here, digital health is viewed as a convergence of digital and genomic technologies with health, healthcare, living, and society to enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery and make medicine prescription and medical treatments more personalized and precise.
The three papers in this special section were presented at the 14th International Conference on Smart Homes and Health Telematics (ICOST 2016) that was hosted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. Addresses the emergence of Digital Healthcare where there has been a sharp increase of activities in research, design, development, real-world deployment and evaluation of smart environments, assistive technologies, medical robotics and health telematics systems by employing computing and communication technologies in the health domain. 概要 Changing system requirements, especially for context awareness (CA) systems, often cause modifications in the software systems in order to adapt to dynamic environments. Since the requirements may become temporarily obsolete or contrary to human intentions, the CA systems need to be tuned to resolve the conflict. On the other hand, most CA design methods rely on pre-defined requirements and reasoning engine, thus, fail to address all the possible situations. Consequently, services provided by such a CA system are limited to accommodate some situations and unable to react as expected. Therefore, it is critical for CA systems to capture exceptions at runtime, infer changed human intentions, and adapt to these changes. This study focuses on inference of ever-changing human intentions and monitoring human intentions to handle system evolution. In this paper, we present an inference mechanism of human intentions via the human-machine dimensional inference ontology (HDIO). This ontology gives inference rules based on the BDI logic to deduce human intentions from contexts.

概要 In order for the intelligent assistant systems to provide users with timely and appropriate assistances, most of them focus on what is considered to be the "rational" aspect of the user behaviors. However, since human desire is the fundamental driving force of human behaviors, without including users' desires, the system cannot provide most appropriate responses. We propose a hierarchical desire inference process based on the Bayesian Belief Networks (BBNs), that considers the affective states, behavior contexts and environmental contexts of a user at given points in time to infer the user's desire. The inferred desire of the highest probability from the BBNs is then used in the follow-up decision making.

概要 While software evolution has been studied extensively in software engineering, few of these efforts have involved a systematic exploration of human epistemological attitudes, such as human desire and intention, as the driving force of software service evolution. Our work proposes a theoretical framework to monitor and reason about human intention and its changes, which in turn can be used to determine how software and services should evolve to be individualized and better serve each user. Extending the Situ framework, we explore the service satisfiability problem through sub-world coverage following Kripke semantics, which enjoys wide application in AI and other fields related to human epistemic reasoning.

概要 This paper proposes an Input Adjustable Tree Algorithm for the flag problems of evolutionary testing (ET). With the algorithm, the dependencies of input and internal/flag variables can be determined. Based on that, ET guides the search efficiently with the presence of flag variables in the source code.

概要 Situation Awareness is a paradigm that contains data gathering, logic reasoning and responsive interaction to capture situations, which describe system states, from dynamic environments. Focusing on evolvability issue, we proposes a generic Situation Awareness System (SAS) model, called Human-centric Evolvable Situation-Awareness (HESA). In this paper, we present the HESA architecture, accommodation/evolution processes, and how we use Context/Situation Generation approach to provide human-centric fault-tolerant evolvability.

概要 リアルタイムシステムの分析者にとって様々な品質特性を同時に考慮してクラスを抽出することは難しい.品質特性を実現するための最適なクラス抽出を行うには,一般化された技術だけでなく,枝術を繰り返し使用して獲得する熟練技術(経験技術)を駆使することが求められる.本論文では,品質特性を実現する分析者(経験者)の経験枝術を他の分析者が利用できるようにするため,設計思考過程を表現するCAPISモデルをクラス抽出法に適用する.さらに,品質特性を実現する課題を表すオントロジ(品質実現オントロジ)を用いて経験者の思考過程を獲得し他の分析者に伝達するCAPIS/OOM(CAPIS mode1/Ontology based Object Modeling)について述べる.本方式を用いた実験では,品質特性を実現する経験者の思考過程を他の分析者が継承して使用できる点と,経験者の思考過程を用いて新たな思考過程を剔出することにより複数の品質特性を実現するクラス抽出が行える点を検証する.
